Removal of infested woods helps to reduce flatheaded borer problem in walnuts

Pacific flatheaded borer has become a concern in several walnut growers in the Central Valley. Since this pest was rarely an issue in the past, not much information regarding the monitoring and control is available. One of the management options is conducting the winter sanitation of the orchard by removing the infested walnut branches and limbs from that orchard as these infested parts harbor overwintering flatheaded borer larvae.
